Inspiring outdoor adventure play! If you are visiting Wild Meadow with Children, a trip to WildRootz at Pensthorpe is highly recommended!

Children with energy to burn will relish the challenge presented by the impressive outdoor eco-play area, and can push themselves physically whilst boosting confidence and having fun by scaling 30ft towers, swinging from zip-wires, venturing into underground tunnels and flying down twisty, worm-like slides. The high-quality play equipment is both innovative and challenging in equal measure. Or simply kick off your shoes and paddle barefoot through the Wildrootz stream – a firm favourite with lots of visitors!

Pensthorpe is a natural home for many species of birds, mammals, invertebrates and plants. The diverse range of priority habitats together create a stunning rich landscape which Pensthorpe Conservation Trust manages for wildlife.

During a visit to Pensthorpe you can see wetlands, hedgerows, woodland, water meadows, riverbanks, species-rich farmland, breck and heath – all vital habitats for a species-rich countryside.

The value of the habitats at Pensthorpe are recognised internationally by the E.U. Special Area of Conservation (SAC) designation as well as nationally with four Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) designations. All these designations encompass the River Wensum, a lowland chalk river of significant importance which runs through the heart of the reserve. The river is also a priority habitat in the UK Biodiversity Action Plan.
